Green Party Spring Conference 2017

Green Global & European greensIn less than 10 days’ the Green Party of England and Wales will be hosting ‘Greens 2017’ the first ever joint congress between the Global Greens and the European Green Party from Thursday 30 March to Sunday 2 April 2017 at the ACC in Liverpool. The event will also incorporate our Spring Conference (Friday 31 March – Sunday 2 April).

This is an amazing opportunity to meet and engage with members of Green Parties from all over the world! Member parties from exactly 100 countries have now registered from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, Iceland to the Solomon Islands. All 13 Mongolian delegates got their visas and are packing their bags, our Australian friends are swapping tips on dealing with the jet lag, and Thomas from Norway set off by bike on Sunday to cycle all the way to Liverpool! (see photo below).

The good news is that you can still be there to welcome them by registering online in advance (recommended to avoid the queues), and you can even register on the door. Register here.

TIMETABLE

The Congress will open on Thursday 30 March with opening ceremonies celebrating the strength and diversity of our Global Green community with a world choir, performance poetry, video presentations from the four quarters of the globe, and keynote speeches from:

  • Isabella Lövin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate, Sweden;
  • Christine Milne, Global Greens Ambassador and former Leader of the Australian Greens;
  • Sylvio Michel, Leader of Mauritius Greens (Les Verts Fraternels).

Over the four days of the event, there will be a full programme of co-organised fringes and training alongside each partner’s voting sessions/plenaries, including joint panels on climate, democracy and tax justice and parallel sessions on progressive alliances; Green action in the age of Trump, Erdogan, Putin and right-wing populism; Migration; Greening Brexit; the Future of Europe; Basic Income; Robotisation; Conscious capitalism; Nuclear Energy; Fracking; Peace processes and many, many more. And we hope to have a ‘Lessons from the Netherlands’ session with representatives from their campaign, and a video greeting from Jesse Klaver himself!

There will be entertainment each evening including music from Seize the Day and the Fab Beatles as well as the opportunity to sign up for walking tours to make the most out of your visit to Liverpool. The large dining area will be the hub for each evening’s activities and will provide a great opportunity to mingle with fellow Greens from all over the globe.

The full joint programme with session descriptions and speaker bios is available on the Congress website.
A timetable of Green Party of England and Wales sessions (motion workshop times, etc) is available on our Conference website.
